Thompson Technique
Chiropractic care is based on the premise that the body has an innate ability to heal itself if spinal abnormalities are found and corrected. One of the most common methods of spinal manipulation is the Thompson Technique. This is a system of analysis and a way of adjusting the entire spine.
The Thompson Technique allows us to work smarter, not harder. We utilize this technique to gently clear pressure from the nerve system and allow your body to function optimally. Rather than fighting against muscular tension or guarding, we can easily use gravity to create the adjustment. The results are precise adjustments and high levels of comfort for practice members.
Terminal Point Table
When visiting our office, the first thing many members notice is our segmental “drop” table. The Thompson Technique utilizes a specially designed table with several segments, known as “drop pieces.” These are individual cushions located along the table’s surface that support each area of your spine until a thrust is delivered.
Its design allows you to lay comfortably in a horizontal position as segments are raised. Each drop piece gently gives way, reducing the amount of energy needed to move a specific spinal segment. This table takes advantage of the spinal joints’ natural design to help improve motion in the back and pelvic area.
A System of Analysis
The Thompson Technique begins with an analysis of disparity in leg length. Early chiropractors noticed that nerve interferences produced the appearance of a short or contracted leg. When nerve interference is present, tension will pull or “yank” on the body, causing one leg to be shorter.
By comparing leg lengths as you turn your head, we can determine whether the nerve interference is in the upper, middle, or lower back. This analysis helps establish the nature of the adjustment that needs to be performed. Combining the analysis with the ease of the table allows for graceful adjustments and greater health.
